LESSON PLAN

Students identify rhythms from familiar music; they use their collection of rhythms to create unique examples. Students partake in peer review and discussion. Students are then introduced to Takadimi and Numbers. They practice each methodology in the context of their personal examples.

LESSON PLAN

Students begin the lesson with a fun sea-lion rhythm activity. They then apply the warm-up skills to 4/4 rhythmic examples. Students are introduced to Kodály, and they practice all rhythm methodologies in the context of student created rhythms. Students practice performing created rhythms and 4/4 rhythms as exam preparation.

11:00 Reading Rhythms Lesson 3 - Review and Assessment

LESSON PLAN

Students listen to a South Indian Vocal Percussion performance, and they build connections between class content and Loire Cotler’s philosophy on rhythm/pulse. Students prepare for the assessment with a fun mismatch/cut-out rhythms activity in 4/4 meter. Numbers/Takadimi/Kodály are practiced with special emphasis on syncopation. Students then take their 1-on-1 reading/performance assessment.
